Retreats: Edouard Philippe will make “concrete proposals” on Saturday

Edouard Philippe will make “concrete proposals” on Saturday in writing which could form the basis of a “compromise” with the social partners, the Prime Minister announced on Friday after having “made good progress” with them on the pension reform.

“I want to reiterate the government’s determination to present this project for a universal pension system on January 24 in the Council of Ministers and to submit it for consideration in public session at the National Assembly as of February 17” so that it can be adopted before the summer, added the head of government, specifying that he would see President Emmanuel Macron on Friday evening.

The Prime Minister, who received trade unions and employers’ organizations all day in Matignon to discuss the balance of the pension system, considered that “this day of discussion gave rise to very frank discussions, very constructive and I believe very useful “.

“Well advanced”

“We have made good progress in finding the compromise we want to obtain, so it is a useful day, but we still have work to do,” said Edouard Philippe.

“From this evening, I will meet the President of the Republic and make contact with a certain number of officials of the majority to discuss the possible advances and tomorrow (Saturday) in writing I will address to the unions and employers’ organizations concrete proposals that could be the basis of this compromise, ”he continued.

These proposals will relate “in particular to the objectives and the modalities of the financing conference which was evoked by a certain number of leaders of trade unions”, starting with the general secretary of the CFDT Laurent Berger, explained the Prime Minister.

The head of government said he wanted to “ensure that this project of” universal pension system “can move forward and be clarified in particular through social dialogue. It takes time, I am perfectly aware of it. But I think that the day today, the exchanges that it has enabled allow us to hope to find the right compromise and therefore the right balance for this bill “.
