Coronavirus: the executive increases its health spending, the budget bill is increasing

The government has decided to fund an additional 3.1 billion euros for the purchase of medical equipment, while it is preparing to announce a special premium for caregivers which could cost around 1 billion euros. The cost associated with partial unemployment is now estimated at 11.15 billion, against 8.5 billion initially planned.

In mid-March, Bercy had announced 11.5 billion euros in new spending, and this amount is therefore being revised upwards.

Two weeks ago, the Minister of Public Accounts, Gérald Darmanin, bravely affirmed that we “Did not count the liters of water to put out the fire when the house is on fire”. In fact, the Canadair continued to water more beautifully this week, as the health crisis linked to the coronavirus intensified. Already 3 billion additional euros have been disbursed in addition to health, before probably a fourth very quickly according to our information, while the bill for short-time working continues to climb.

“We are forced to operate in stages. The budget corrective voted ten days ago was of a provisional nature, and the amounts are revised accordingly as the crisis progresses ”, pleads Laurent Saint-Martin, the Budget rapporteur (LREM) to the National Assembly.
