Coronavirus: tax audits suspended, uncertainties about the tax return

The tax administration, which suspended its controls during the epidemic, is on the front line in supporting economic activity. While waiting to be able to welcome the public again, the tax authorities could extend the declaration campaign for the income tax.

Every year, 5 million individuals visit their tax center, most of the time during the tax filing season.

In the space of a few days, the tax administration went into “commando” mode. From an administration responsible for controlling and collecting taxes, it has withdrawn from its functions essential to the functioning of the economy and to the support of companies in difficulty.

The management of the solidarity fund falls to the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFIP) to grant the compensation of 1,500 euros to the self-employed. At the same time, tax audits have been suspended, as has forced collection. An unprecedented decision, justified not only by the desire not to further weaken companies in difficulty, but also by the fact that large groups, more frequently controlled, have switched massively to teleworking.
